Our West Coast Swing Lessons
in Colorado Springs
How We Teach
We believe West Coast Swing should feel fun and accessible from day one. Our teaching approach is built around the Body Language Curriculum (BLC) — a foundation-first method that helps dancers start moving with confidence, connection, and joy.
What That Means for You
-
Body first learning — We focus on natural movement, rhythm, and grounded technique before layering in patterns. This help dancers feel successful immediately and gives them better connection to the music.
-
Connection over complexity — You'll learn how to communicate through your body, not memorize long sequences. That makes social dancing easier and way more fun.
-
Community-centered classes — Our classes are designed to help you meet people, laugh, and feel at home in the Colorado Springs WCS scene.
-
Beginner-friendly progression — Each class builds gently from simple movement to expressive dancing, so you always know what's next and learn West Coast Swing without feeling lost or overwhelmed.
Community Centered-Classes
-
Shared events — We coordinate with other Colorado Springs WCS organizers so dancers can easily find socials, classes, an practice nights all over the city.
-
Cross-community support — We encourage our dancers to explore multiple groups, meet new people, and build friendships across the broader West Coast scene.
Our Goals
We want every dancer, whether it's your first class or fiftieth, to feel supported, capable, and connected. West Coast swing is a social dance, and we teach in a way that helps you become part of the community from the moment you walk in.
We want a community that is growing and thriving together — no silos, no cliques — just one connected Colorado Springs West Coast Swing family.
More About the Body Language Curriculum
The BLC was developed by WCS champions Jesse Lopez and Ariel Peck, and we're proud to be a licensed BLC school.
BLC teaching more than patterns. It builds the skills that make social dancing feel natural: movement, connection, communication, and musicality. The goal is to help you become a confident, adaptable dancer who can enjoy dancing with anyone.
Just as important as the skills are the values that shape our community. Built on the principles of Consent, Empathy, and Duality, BLC encourages every dance to be a shared conversation where both partners are heard, respected, and supported. We believe the best dancers aren't just technically skilled—they're thoughtful partners who create a fun, welcoming experience for everyone on the floor.
Whether you're taking your very first class or refining advanced skills, the goal of BLC is to help you build a strong foundation, connect authentically with others, and discover the joy of social dancing, one conversation at a time.
The Evolution of WCS
West Coast Swing, or Modern Swing, traces its roots back to the Savoy Ballroom and the Lindy Hop of the 1930s.
As music evolved from big band jazz to blues, R&B, and contemporary pop, the dance transformed into a sleek, linear conversation between partners.
It's a living history that prizes improvisational freedom and individual expression.
Today, this dance is more than just steps; it’s a culture of inclusion and community.
At COS Westies, we believe it’s the most fun you’ll ever have. It brings pure happiness, connecting people through movement and shared rhythm.
Whether we're dancing to the latest radio hits or timeless soul, it's about the connection we find together on the floor.
